St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), Vamanjoor, in association with the Synergy Club celebrated Teachers’ Day 2026 with a special programme at the Kalam Auditorium, Academic Block II.
The celebration was being organised as a tribute to the invaluable contribution of teachers in shaping young minds, nurturing character and building a knowledgeable and responsible society. The occasion also commemorated the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the eminent philosopher, distinguished teacher, scholar and former President of India, whose birthday is celebrated across the country as Teachers’ Day.
Dr Ronald Nazareth, Professor and Registrar, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru, was the Chief Guest for the programme. Rev. Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, Director, SJEC, presided over the celebration. The programme was graced by Dr Rio D’Souza, Principal, SJEC, and Rev. Fr Kenneth Rayner Crasta, Assistant Director, SJEC, as Guests of Honour.
The programme began with an introduction and prayer, followed by a welcome address by Mr. Allen D’Souza, BE Student. A special floral tribute was offered in honour of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, remembering his remarkable contributions to education, philosophy and public life, as well as his enduring belief in the transformative power of teachers.
One of the highlights of the celebration was the Teachers’ Day cake-cutting ceremony, symbolizing the collective appreciation and gratitude of the SJEC community towards its dedicated teaching fraternity. The programme also featured an address by Ms. Jia Menezes, Final year BE Student, providing an opportunity for students to express their appreciation for the guidance, encouragement and mentorship received from their teachers.
Dr Rio D’Souza, Principal, addressed the gathering and shared his thoughts on the importance of teachers’ in the society in shaping the career of young minds. The Chief Guest, Dr Ronald Nazareth shared his reflections on the significance of the teaching profession during his 33 years of teaching profession, the fulfillment he got through this profession and
the vital role educators play in preparing students to face the challenges of an increasingly dynamic world. He suggested the faculties to innovate and excel in their domain instead of just managing the existing teaching methodologies.
As a mark of respect and appreciation, a Token of Gratitude was presented to the Chief Guest. Rev. Fr. Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, Director, SJEC, in his presidential address,highlighted the importance of teachers in the holistic development of students and in carrying forward the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, values and social
responsibility.
The formal programme concluded with the vote of thanks by Ms Ciana Andrea D’Souza in presence of Ms. Preethi Jayachandra, Convenor of the program & Dr K Jyothi, Dean – Student Welfare, followed by games and refreshments, providing an opportunity for faculty members and members of the SJEC community to come together in a spirit of joy, fellowship and celebration.
Teachers’ Day at SJEC is a meaningful occasion recognizing the dedication, commitment and lasting influence of educators. Beyond academic instruction, teachers serve as mentors, guides and role models who inspire students to discover their potential and pursue their aspirations with confidence and integrity. The event reflects the institution’s deep appreciation for its teachers and its continued commitment to fostering a culture of respect, learning and gratitude.
