Librarian’s Day was observed on 22 nd August, 2026 at the Department of Library and Information Science in association with the Central Library, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) and the Karnataka State Library Association, (KALA), DK Chapter to commemorate the 134 th birth anniversary of Padmashri Dr. S. R. Ranganathan (1892-1972) who is considered as the Father of Library Science in India. Dr Ranganathan spearheaded the development of Library science in India and dedicated his entire life for the growth of the
profession.
The program began with an invocation by Mr Sanaur, 1 st Year MBBS student, Yenepoya Medical College. Dr.Mamatha Pramod Kumar, Associate Professor & Head (I/c), Department of Library & Information Science, Yenepoya (deemed to be University) & Organising Chairperson of the event welcomed the gathering. This was followed with the traditional lighting of the lamp and offering Floral tributes to Dr. S. R. Ranganathan. Dr. Shakil M. Deputy Registrar, Yenepoya (deemed to be University) presided over the program. Dr. Abhay S.Nirgude, Vice Principal and Professor, Community Medicine, Yenepoya Medical College was the chief guest at the program. On this occasion, there was a special address titled “Padma Shri Dr. S. R. Ranganathan – His Enduring Contributions to Library and Information Science”, by Dr. Janet Dotty Lobo, Chief Librarian, Father Muller Medical College, Mangalore and “AI-Powered Libraries: Practical Applications
for Academic Libraries.” by Dr. Vishala B.K., Research Co-ordinator, St Agnes College(Autonomous), Mangalore.
Dr. Khaisar Muneebulla Khan, Former Professor, Department of Library and Information Science, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) was felicitated at the program inrecognition of his valuable contributions to the Library profession.
Mr Khalid Pasha, Chief Librarian & Organising Secretary proposed the Vote of thanks. The program was conducted in hybrid mode and executive members of the Karnataka State Library Association, (KALA), DK Chapter, faculty members and Library professionals
from the colleges and universities participated in the program. The program was compered by Mr Hamad Bilal, Lecturer, Department of Library and Information Science, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University)
